Electric Parking Heaters: People Who Park in Carports and Drive Short Journeys Shouldn't Be Left Standing Out In The Cold

Excellent visibility, a cosy, warm interior and a pre-heated engine straight away – with zero emissions on site – can be achieved with the electric parking heater. It simultaneously pre-heats the engine and interior and quickly de-ices the windows. Our curious readers have sent in their questions.

    Here are our answers.

  • Electric Parking Heater For Petrol Cars?

    Hello Easy Way magazine,
We drive a normal petrol car (a VW Golf 7 Variant), not an electric vehicle. Can we install an electric parking heater in it? Our neighbour has one and says they’re great… And is it complex and expensive?
Kind regards, Susanne and Thomas from Ulm, Germany

Easy Way magazine: Hello Susanne and Thomas! Good news for you: Electric parking heaters are really easy to retrofit in petrol and diesel cars and plug-in hybrids. This is best done by a certified garage. The installation can be completed in a day and, as it doesn’t need to be connected to the vehicle’s fuel supply, it can cost up to 40% less than a fuel-operated parking heater.

Woman starts the Webasto eThermo Top Eco electric parking heater using a smartphone app to pre-heat her vehicle. The heating can be conveniently controlled using the app and a smart home plug or a timer on the normal power outlet.
  • Small Connector - Big Impact

Woman inserts connector for the Webasto eThermo Top Eco electric parking heater in her car to pre-heat it. The electric parking heater is simply connected to the power outlet via a power cable.

    Dear editorial team,
We have read about electric parking heaters but there are a few things we’re unclear about. How is the power supplied? Via a battery? Three-phase electric power? Or a normal power outlet? How does an electric parking heater work, and who is it suitable for?
    Yours sincerely, the W. family

Easy Way magazine: Dear W. family, simply connect the electric parking heater to a standard 230V power outlet using a power cable. The heater will be integrated in your car’s cooling system. It pre-heats the engine and releases the heated air onto the front windscreen and into the vehicle via the vehicle’s fan. This heats the engine and the interior at the same time.

The electric parking heater does not emit emissions on site, so it can also be used in enclosed spaces such as garages and underground car parks. There is usually a power outlet here, just as there is in a carport.

It is also suitable for people who drive short distances, as it recharges the vehicle’s battery during the heating phase, which offsets the energy used to power the fan.

  • What Else Can An Electric Parking Heater Do?

    Hi Easy Way magazine,
I have a carport and am considering an electric parking heater because I like getting into a warm car in the morning. I also have a power outlet in my carport, so it’s ideal. Are there other benefits to an electric parking heater? Which model would you recommend
    Warmest regards,
    Frank H. from Emden, Germany

Easy Way magazine: Hi Frank! First of all, the electric parking heater is a major benefit for people who park in carports and garages as well as for people who drive short routes, as it is emission-free on site, so it can also be used in enclosed spaces. The device also charges the vehicle’s battery while it is active. This means the parking heater is operated as much as possible without draining the battery. This is particularly good news for people who drive short distances.

The warm-up phase also protects the engine. The air in the interior is dehumidified, so fogged-up windscreens and windows dry out. Another benefit: The electric parking heater can be installed in no time at all and is up to 40% cheaper than its fuel-operated counterpart.

We thoroughly recommend the Webasto eThermo Top Eco, which has proved effective in practice and combines all the benefits listed above. We hope you have fun with your new parking heater!
